Have you ever thought about making baklava at home?
Although the preparation seems complicated, a little patience and some tricks make it an enjoyable and delicious experience. In this article, we share with you a simple recipe inspired by our style at “Die Prinzen Sweets”, so you can experience a moment of royal taste in your kitchen.
Ingredients:
- 500 g ready-made pastry sheets (phyllo dough)
- 300 g Aleppo pistachios or walnuts (coarsely ground)
- 200 g Arabic ghee or melted butter
- 1 tsp cinnamon (optional)
- A splash of orange blossom or rose water (to taste)
For the sugar syrup:
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- Orange blossom water at the end
Preparation:
- Prepare the syrup:
In a pot, mix sugar and water and bring to a boil, then add lemon juice and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat, add orange blossom water, and let cool. - Prepare the filling:
Mix the nuts with a pinch of cinnamon and orange blossom water. - Prepare the layers:
Grease a baking dish with ghee and lay out layers of phyllo dough (about 10 layers), brushing a little ghee between each layer. Then add a layer of filling and repeat the layers in the same way. - Cut:
Before baking, cut the baklava into squares or diamonds using a sharp knife. - Bake:
Place in a preheated oven at 180°C and bake for 30–40 minutes until golden brown. - Add syrup:
As soon as the baklava comes out of the oven, immediately pour the cold syrup over the hot baklava.
Die Prinzen’s Tip:
To achieve a taste similar to what we prepare in our shop, choose fresh nuts and high-quality dough, and don’t overdo the amount of syrup to keep the baklava crispy.
